Emporia State University, frequently alluded to as Emporia State or ESU, is a state funded college in Emporia, Kansas, United States, east of the Flint Hills. Created in March 1863 and initially known as the Kansas State Normal School, Emporia State is the third most seasoned state funded college in the condition of Kansas. Emporia State is one of six state funded colleges administered by the Kansas Board of Regents.
The college offers degrees in more than 80 courses of study through 4 universities: the School of Business, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, School of Library and Information Management, and The Teachers College. The Teachers College is one of just four post–secondary establishments in the country to be distinguished as an Exemplary Model Teacher Education program by Arthur Levine in his 2006 national investigation of instructor instruction programs.
Emporia State's intercollegiate athletic groups are known as the Hornets except for the ladies' groups, which are known as the Lady Hornets. Emporia State contends in NCAA Division II and is an individual from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA). Since joining the NCAA Division II in 1991, the Lady Hornets ball group is the main group to win a NCAA title.
